Shelby Scott Named as WSC Sports Information Director
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Shelby Scott has been named as the next Sports Information Director for the Western State Conference. Her responsibilities will be heavily focused on the league's website management, postseason awards promotion, championship coverage, and rebuilding the WSC's historical archives. Scott also serves as the Assistant Athletic Director/Sports Information Director at Allan Hancock College and is the President-Elect of the California Community College Sports Information Association.
Scott brings more than a decade of experience in athletics communications at the NAIA, NJCAA, and CCCAA levels. Prior to her post at Allan Hancock, Scott served as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Missouri Valley College for two years and the Director of Communications for the Heart of America Athletic Conference for three. She handled all aspects of the league's creative and digital content for over 20 sponsored sports and oversaw a drastic improvement in the league's social media presence on all platforms: Instagram (95 percent growth), Facebook (58 percent growth), and Twitter (39 percent growth).
Prior to her time at Missouri Valley, Scott served as the Director of Athletic Communications and was the Senior Women's Administrator at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo., for two years. She was responsible for all external operations for athletics at CMU including sports information, marketing and advertising, and special events for the athletic department. She was named the Heart Sports Information Director of the Year for the 2019-20 academic year.
At CMU, she promoted several nationally ranked programs, including the two-time NAIA national champion men's soccer team. She also produced three pieces of NAIA-SIDA award-winning content. Her efforts substantially improved the department's branding through graphic design and brought a drastic improvement to CMU's broadcast live-streaming capabilities.
Scott began her career in athletics communications at Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo., as an undergraduate student, working her way up through the department from a student worker to eventually becoming the Director of Sports Information and Special Events. She coordinated all events within Wentworth's athletic department, including theme nights, promotions, and halftime entertainment. Additionally, Scott developed supplemental advertising material for the department including team posters and media guides.
Scott earned her M.S. in Sports Management from the University of Central Missouri in 2015.
