Hughes Wins 2nd Straight COY; Hammonds Makes It 3rd Straight POY for Gades
The Bakersfield College Men’s Basketball program continued its stranglehold of the WSC South postseason awards in 2017. Head Coach Rich Hughes won his second straight Coach of the Year award, while freshman guard Jamar Hammond won the third straight Player of the Year honors for a Bakersfield player.
The Bakersfield College Men's Basketball program continued its stranglehold of the WSC South postseason awards in 2017. Head Coach Rich Hughes won his second straight Coach of the Year award, while freshman guard Jamar Hammond won the third straight Player of the Year honors for a Bakersfield player.
Hammond was the Renegade's leading scorer in 2016-2017, scoring 16 points per game on 48.2% shooting from the floor and 71% from the charity stripe. Hammonds also averaged 5.8 boards and 1.6 assists a contest.
Hughes meanwhile led the Gades to their second straight 20 win season and second consecutive conference championship, the program's fifth overall conference title.
