Chenault and Ojala Claim WSC Gold Awards
Allan Hancock College’s freshman pitcher Katelyn Chenault was named the WSC Gold Pitcher of the Year this past weekend, while Cuesta College’s Bre Ojala was named the WSC Gold Player of the Year. Cuesta also took home one more award, when Head Coach Sheila McGuire was tabbed as the Coach of the Year.
Allan Hancock College's freshman pitcher Katelyn Chenault was named the WSC Gold Pitcher of the Year this past weekend, while Cuesta College's Bre Ojala was named the WSC Gold Player of the Year. Cuesta also took home one more award, when Head Coach Sheila McGuire was tabbed as the Coach of the Year.
Chenault had an impressive freshman campaign in 2014, going 26-8 in the circle. Her 26 wins was tops in the State, and her 355 strikeouts was also the most in the entire CCCAA. Chenault averaged an impressive 11.09 K's per game, and posted a 1.38 ERA on the season.
Ojala meanwhile also had a breakout freshman year. Ojala was second in the WSC with a .509 batting average, and first in the WSC Gold. Ojala was fourth in the entire WSC with 44 RBI's, and was 11th overall with 37 runs scored. Ojala posted a .556 on-base percentage and posted a .851 slugging percentage which was third in the entire WSC.
Ojala's coach Sheila McGuire rounded out the big awards. McGuire guided the Cougars to a 26-13 overall record and 13-5 record in the WSC North, good for second place.
