Canyons Women and Santa Barbara Men Win WSC Track & Field Championships
The College of the Canyons Women and the Santa Barbara City College Men won their respective 2015 Western State Conference Track and Field Team Championships. It's the first conference championship for both the Vaqueros and the Cougars.
The College of the Canyons Women and the Santa Barbara City College Men won their respective 2015 Western State Conference Track and Field Team Championships. It's the first conference championship for both the Vaqueros and the Cougars.
Santa Barbara won the conference crown on the strength of 11 Top 3 finishes. Bas VanLeersum won a pair of events for the Vaqueros, winning both the 400 Meters (48.14) and the 400 Meter Hurdles (53.09). Santa Barbara also picked up three wins in the field events as Luke McAllister won the High Jump (1.95), Marvin Magg won the Shot Put (13.92), and Aaron Mateski won the Javelin (55.07).
Canyons meanwhile also head a steady overall performance with 13 Top 3 finishes. The Cougars had three wins on the weekend, with Mikala Fairchild winning the 1,500M Run (4:39.85), Dominique Dowell the 10,000M Run (40:02.69), and Jada Selexman the 400M Hurdles (1:05.15).
