Santa Monica Wins WSC South for First Title Since 2008
The Santa Monica College Women’s Basketball team wrapped up its first conference title since 2008 on Saturday night. The Corsairs travelled to Los Angeles Pierce College and came back home with a 97-39 victory to hold off an idle Bakersfield College, who ended up in second place one game back.

Santa Monica finished the 2016-2017 season 19-9 overall and 7-1 in WSC South play. The Corsairs lone slip-up in conference action was a 63-74 loss at home to Bakersfield College. Santa Monica rallied after that, winning their final two games by a combined 79 points. It's the third overall conference championship for the Corsairs.
Santa Monica also earned a berth into the 2017 CCCAA SoCal Playoffs thanks to the win. They will be the lone team from the WSC South in the post-season and as the #14 seed will host #19 seeded San Diego City College on Wednesday February 22nd at 7:00 PM. The winner will take on #3 Ventura College on Saturday night.
