Glendale’s Weiss and AVC’s Page are Coach and Player of the Year in South
Glendale College Joel Weiss and Antelope Valley College freshman forward Niyah Page were named the Western State Conference South Division Coach and Player of the Year over the weekend. For Weiss it's the second straight year in which he won the award, while Page becomes the first women's player from Antelope Valley to win a Player of the Year nod since they joined the conference during the 2013-2014 academic year.
Weiss' crew had a fantastic 2019-2020 season, going 26-2 overall and 13-1 in Western State Conference South Division play. The Vaqueros would go on to earn the #4 overall seed in the 2020 California Community College Athletics Association Southern California Women's Basketball playoffs.
Page was the third leading scorer in the WSC South in 2020, averaging 17.2 points per game. Page also averaged 10.2 rebounds per game (second in the WSC South and fifth overall), and 1.2 blocks per game for good measure. Her efforts along with those of her teammates helped the Marauders get into the 2020 CCCAA SoCal Playoffs at #17.
