Citrus’ Spalding and SBCC’s Brooks Take Home Women’s Water Polo Top Honors
The 2019 Western State Conference Women's Water Polo awards were announced recently. Citrus College Head Coach Jennifer Spalding was named the Coach of the Year, while Santa Barbara City College sophomore Taylor Brooks was named the Player of the Year.
Spalding earned Coach of the Year honors for the second time in her fourth season at the helm of the Owls. She guided them to a 28-9 overall mark, 7-2 record in WSC play, and 4th place finish at the 2019 CCCAA Southern California Regionals. Additionally the Citrus offense had the second most goals in the State (379), while their defense led the entire CCCAA in steals (489).
Brooks led the entire State let alone the WSC in goals in 2019, finding the back of the net 134 times this past season. Brooks recorded 71 steals (10th in the CCCAA), drew 67 exclusions (3rd in the CCCAA), and added 23 assists. The Vaqueros would claim their sixth straight conference title and go on to finish third in the CCCAA Southern California Regionals.
