Valley’s Hoibaca is Pitcher of the Year; Glendale’s Akins and Cicuto are Player and Coach of the Year
Los Angeles Valley College's sophomore left hander Jesse Hoibaca was named the WSC South Pitcher of the Year recently. Glendale College's sophomore Jared Akins and Head Coach Chris Cicuto were named the Player and Coach of the Year respectively.
Los Angeles Valley College's sophomore left hander Jesse Hoibaca was named the WSC South Pitcher of the Year recently. Glendale College's sophomore Jared Akins and Head Coach Chris Cicuto were named the Player and Coach of the Year respectively.
Hoibaca made eight appearances in WSC South play, going 5-1 in 48.2 innings worth of work, completing one game. Hobaica posted a 1.66 ERA, struck out 23 batters, and walked just 10 in his time on the bump.
Akins meanwhile terrorized opposing pitchers, hitting .415 in WSC South play with a .510 on-base percentage and a .744 slugging percentage. Akins scored 24 runs, drove in 30 more, hit eight doubles, two triples, and five home runs. Akins also stole eight bases and didn't commit an error in the field, posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
Cicuto his fifth WSC South Coach of the Year nod. It's the fifth time in six seasons that Cicuto has earned the honors, after he led the Vaqueros to a 17-4 mark in WSC South play in 2016 and winning their fifth conference title under his watch.
