Vaqueros Claim First Conference Title in Five Years
The Santa Barbara City College Women’s Golf team capped a perfect regular conference season this past weekend with a win in the 2013 Western State Conference Championships. It was the first Vaquero conference title since they won it back in 2008.
The Santa Barbara City College Women's Golf team capped a perfect regular conference season this past weekend with a win in the 2013 Western State Conference Championships. It was the first Vaquero conference title since they won it back in 2008.
Santa Barbara ran out to a 17 stroke lead after one day of action, and never looked back. The Vaqueros shot a team score of 317 on day one and then came back with a round of 319 on day two to post a two day total of 636. That bested second place College of the Canyons who posted a 675, and third place Citrus College who came in with a 750.
Santa Barbara's Fanny Johansson won the individual championship with a 74 and 75 for a total of 149. That was nearly 10 strokes better than Citrus College's Paramee Suwantanma and Bakersfield College's Kendall Huser who finished tied for second place with two day scores of 158.
With the win, Santa Barbara and second place College of the Canyons both advance to the Southern California Championships in two weeks. In addition Huser, Suwantanma, and Glendale's Sarah Soderberg also qualify as individuals.
