Cuesta's Watkins Earns CCCWVCA State Player of the Week Honors
Sacramento, Calif. - Cuesta freshman setter Emma Watkins earned CCCWVCA State Player of the Week honors, announced Monday.
Watkins posted a solid all-around match in the Cougars' five-set thrilling upset over No. 12 LA Mission last week, racking up 34 assists, six kills, 11 digs, four aces, and three blocks. She followed up that performance with a 31 assist, eight kill, five ace, and nine dig outing against Bakersfield to cap the week.
In her rookie campaign, Watkins averages 7.39 assists per set, 1.35 kills per set, and 2.18 digs per set.
Watkins is the ninth CCCWVCA State Player of the Week from the Western State Conference this season. She joins LA Mission's outside hitter Madison "Maddie" Perry (Week No. 4), middle blocker Amya Cheatham-January (Week No. 7), and outside hitter Tawnie Ohrt (Week No. 12); Santa Barbara middle blocker Hazel Irvine (Week No. 2), outside hitter Bayley Padia (Week No. 4), and setter/opposite Stephanie Groswirt (Week. No. 8); Santa Monica's middle blocker/outside hitter/libero Mia Whitlock (Week No. 7); and Ventura's outside hitter Josephine Rausch (Week No. 11).
Orange Coast's setter Sophie Vienna, Hartnell middle blocker Soniyah King, and Solano's setter Kaylie Reyes join Watkins as the other three CCCWVCA State Players of the Week for Week No. 13.
